Who owns Bug King?

Tyler King, a U.S. Navy Chief with 20 years of service. He learned pest control at a small, family-owned company and founded Bug King in 2024. He answers the phone and does the work himself.

What areas do you serve?

All of Comal County, Texas: New Braunfels (including Gruene), Canyon Lake, Bulverde, Spring Branch and Garden Ridge.

What are your hours?

6am to 6pm, 7 days a week, with same-day and weekend service available. Call or text (830) 221-0545.

What pests do you treat?

General pests like ants, roaches and spiders, plus termites, scorpions, fire ants, mosquitoes and rodents.

What service plans do you offer?

One-time service, quarterly plans and monthly plans. Quarterly fits most homes; monthly fits heavy pest pressure.

How much does pest control cost?

It depends on your home's size, the pest and the plan. Call or text (830) 221-0545, or use the quote form, and Tyler will give you a straight price.

General pest control

How often should I get pest control in New Braunfels?

Most Comal County homes do well with quarterly service, timed to the seasons. Monthly service makes sense when pest pressure is heavy or you're dealing with an active infestation. A one-time treatment fits a single problem, like a sudden ant invasion before guests arrive.

Do I need to leave the house during treatment?

For outside treatments, no. If Tyler treats inside, he'll tell you exactly how long to keep kids and pets off treated areas, which is usually until the product has dried.

Do you treat inside or just outside?

Mostly outside, where pests get in. Inside, Tyler treats only where it's needed, with targeted crack-and-crevice treatments and baits instead of spraying whole rooms.

Can you come today?

Same-day service is available 7 days a week, 6am to 6pm. Call or text (830) 221-0545 early in the day for the best chance at a same-day visit.

What if pests come back between visits?

Call or text Tyler. You're talking to the owner, so he'll come take a look and make it right.

Termite control

How do I tell flying ants from termite swarmers?

Termite swarmers have straight antennae, a thick waist and two pairs of wings the same length. Flying ants have bent antennae, a pinched waist and front wings longer than the back ones. Save a few in a sealed bag and Tyler can identify them.

Do swarmers inside the house mean I have termites?

Usually, yes. Swarmers coming out inside your home typically mean a colony is feeding in or under the structure. Call or text for an inspection rather than just vacuuming them up.

Does homeowners insurance cover termite damage?

Usually not. Most homeowners policies treat termite damage as preventable maintenance, which is why early inspection and treatment are worth it. Check your own policy to be sure.

How long does termite treatment last?

It depends on the method. Tyler will explain how long protection lasts for the treatment he recommends for your home and what follow-up it needs.

I see mud tubes but no termites. Should I worry?

Yes. Termites stay inside the tubes to avoid drying out. Break a small piece open: if it's repaired within days, the colony is active. Either way, have it inspected.

Scorpion control

Why am I finding scorpions in my house?

Usually because they live close by, under rocks, wood piles, landscape borders or in the attic, and they're following insects to eat. Gaps under doors, around pipes and in weep holes let them in.

Can you get rid of scorpions completely?

Honestly, in the Hill Country it's rare to eliminate every scorpion around a home. Regular treatment, sealing entry points and controlling the insects they eat can bring indoor sightings down a lot.

Are scorpion stings dangerous?

Stings from Central Texas scorpions are painful but rarely dangerous for healthy adults. Call your doctor or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if a young child, an older adult or anyone with an allergic reaction is stung, and call 911 for trouble breathing.

How often do I need scorpion treatment?

Homes with steady activity usually do best with monthly or quarterly service through the warm months. Tyler will recommend a schedule after he sees your property.

Fire ant control

Why do fire ant mounds come back after I treat them?

Mound drenches and dusts often kill only the ants they touch, so the colony and queen move a few feet and rebuild. Bait carried back by workers reaches the queen, which is why the two-step method lasts longer.

How long until the fire ants are gone?

Mound treatments work within hours to days. Baits are slower, usually days to a few weeks, because the colony has to share them and the queen has to die.

Is it safe for my kids and dog to be in the yard?

Tyler will tell you exactly how long to keep kids and pets off treated areas, usually until the product has dried or been watered in as the label directs.

Do fire ants get inside the house?

Sometimes, especially during droughts or floods. They also love AC units, electrical boxes and the warm edge of a slab.

Mosquito control

How long does a mosquito treatment last?

Barrier treatments lose strength over a few weeks and with heavy rain, which is why most yards are treated monthly through the season.

Will mosquito treatment hurt bees?

Tyler avoids treating blooming plants and flowers that bees and butterflies visit, and focuses on shady resting areas and breeding sites instead.

Can you treat before a party or wedding?

Yes. Schedule a treatment a day or two before your event for the best results.

What can I do myself?

Dump standing water every week: buckets, plant saucers, toys, tarps, clogged gutters and pet bowls. Even a bottle cap of water can breed mosquitoes.

Are you a MistAway dealer?

Yes. Bug King is an authorized dealer of MistAway mosquito misting systems, serving New Braunfels and Comal County. Call or text Tyler at (830) 221-0545 to ask whether a system fits your yard.

What's the difference between a misting system and a monthly treatment?

A monthly barrier treatment is applied by hand and wears down over a few weeks. A MistAway misting system is installed in your yard and mists automatically a few short times a day on a schedule, and you can trigger it from the iMist app before guests arrive.

Rodent control

Do I have rats or mice?

Droppings tell you. Mouse droppings are about the size of a grain of rice; rat droppings are about half an inch or longer. Noise in the attic at night is most often roof rats.

Do you use poison inside the house?

Inside, Tyler relies mainly on traps so rodents don't die in walls and cause odors. Tamper-resistant bait stations are used outside where they're appropriate.

How did they get in?

A mouse can fit through a gap about the size of a dime and a rat through one about the size of a quarter. Common spots are roof returns, AC line penetrations, garage door corners and vents.

How long does it take?

Most homes see activity drop within a couple of weeks once traps are in and entry points are closed, with follow-up visits until it stops.
