Fire ant control in New Braunfels & Comal County
Red imported fire ants sting repeatedly and pop up new mounds after every rain. Bug King uses the two-step approach Texas A&M AgriLife recommends: a bait spread across the yard that worker ants carry back to the queen, plus fast-acting treatment on mounds near walkways, play areas and doors. Baits take days to weeks, but they reach the colony instead of just moving it.
What this covers
- Red imported fire ant mounds in lawns and beds
- Yard-wide bait applications
- Individual mound treatments near high-traffic spots
- Fire ants in AC units, electrical boxes and along slabs
Signs you need fire ant control
- Fluffy, dome-shaped dirt mounds with no visible opening, often after rain
- Swarms of small reddish ants when a mound is disturbed
- Painful stings that turn into white pustules a day later
- Ants in AC units, pump houses or electrical boxes
How it works
How Tyler handles fire ant control
Identify
Tyler confirms they're fire ants and maps where mounds are concentrated.
Broadcast bait
A bait is spread across the yard on a dry day while ants are foraging, so workers carry it back and the colony dies off over the following weeks.
Treat problem mounds
Mounds next to walkways, play sets, doors and gardens get a direct, faster-acting treatment.
Protect equipment
Fire ants are drawn to electrical fields. AC units, pump houses and electrical boxes are checked.
Repeat as needed
New queens fly in from neighboring land, so treatments are timed through spring and fall when mounds are most active.
When it peaks in the Hill Country
Fire ants stay active most of the year in Comal County, and mounds are most visible in spring and fall and right after a rain. Treating in spring knocks colonies back before summer, and a fall treatment cuts down next year's population.

FAQ
Fire ant control questions
Why do fire ant mounds come back after I treat them?
Mound drenches and dusts often kill only the ants they touch, so the colony and queen move a few feet and rebuild. Bait carried back by workers reaches the queen, which is why the two-step method lasts longer.
How long until the fire ants are gone?
Mound treatments work within hours to days. Baits are slower, usually days to a few weeks, because the colony has to share them and the queen has to die.
Is it safe for my kids and dog to be in the yard?
Tyler will tell you exactly how long to keep kids and pets off treated areas, usually until the product has dried or been watered in as the label directs.
Do fire ants get inside the house?
Sometimes, especially during droughts or floods. They also love AC units, electrical boxes and the warm edge of a slab.
